Horsell Scouts and Guides - Use of Photographs
Informal information regarding the usage of photos of members in scouting for leaders.
Legally the photos are owned by the person who takes them therefore no specific consent is needed to use them, however good practice would dictate that parental consent should be obtained and any request for images not to be used complied with. As long as there is no means of identification, photos can be used in a website, local press or on the wall of the HQ. If an individual is to be named (maybe as a result of obtaining a particular award etc) then parental consent should be obtained for this identification.
As long as the photos themselves are appropriate, the Scout Association has no policy against their use. This even extends to the slighlty controversial issue of photos of children in swimming costumes etc. As long as the images are decent, there is no specific problem using them although common sense dictates that parents have the option to veto.
