Busy Beavers Build a Bivouac

It was a very chilly afternoon when the Trailblazer beavers embarked on their first trip of the year to Horsell common.

Luckily, Beavers don't stand still long enough to get cold and our Young leader, Jenny helped by putting them through their paces with a brisk jog and some stretches. After a treasure hunt involving a matchbox and some instructions to fit as many small things as you can inside the matchbox, Daniel Cheetham was declared the winner with over 20 small leaves, sticks and stones and (thankfully) nothing with legs in his box.

Once the treasure hunt was over, the beavers got down to some serious shelter building. They all decided to build one big shelter and managed to find some enormous sticks to build it with. The shelter was soon finished but the boys continued to "reinforce" it with more and more sticks until the walls were quite thick. Whilst most of the boys managed to fit inside, in some cases sitting on top of each other, those that didn't quite fit stood outside the entrance and one of our parent helpers took the photo. They can't wait to do it all again.

If you, your son or daughter is aged between 6 and 8 and would like to join the Beavers then please contact the Group Scout Leader and he will get in touch.
