Horsell Cubs Attend Woking District Cub Camp

On the weekend of 6-8th June around a hundred older cubs form all over Woking congregated at Birchmere camp site for the annual District Cub Camp. Horsell cubs were well represented with 17 boys from both packs attending. The weekend opened with a wide game which enabled everyone to get to know each other and run off some energy.

After a surprisingly good night's sleep, everyone got stuck in to the events which the District team had put together, which included an introduction to scuba diving (really!), back woods cooking, bivouac building and rifle shooting. The Horsell leaders ran a pioneering base (using seriously large poles!), and over the course of Saturday, all of the cubs on site helped to build a bridge, which we managed to finish just in time for the final whistle. Saturday evening was then rounded off by a camp fire.

Sunday saw the unit leaders running a number of different bases which tested a number of skills and let the cubs try out some new games. After lunch we started to take everything down. There was a bit of a delay when the emptying of the scuba diving pool turned into a giant water fight, which culminated in the Assistant District Commissioner being thrown in (sorry Linda, it just had to be done). After everyone had dried out, we finished striking camp and all went home, tired, but happy.
