Cubs Visit to the RAF Museum at Hendon
Early on the morning of 29th November, 40 cubs from the Baden Powell and Brownsea packs along with 3 leaders and 6 dads met up in the Brewery Road car park in order to go and visit the RAF Museum at Hendon. After a pleasantly uneventful coach journey (on which a surprising number of luxury cars were apparently spotted) we arrived at the museum just as it was opening. We split in to groups and spent the day exploring the museum. We saw lots of aircraft ranging from early biplanes through to modern jets, got hands on in the science section and watched a 3-D movie. Just before lunch (with hindsight possibly not the ideal time) we took turns to have rides in a World War 1 fighter simulator, and there was much hilarity as Akela Andy staggered off looking a fetching shade of green following what he claimed was a particularly violent dog fight.
All too soon it was time to head for the coach and home (although not before hitting the gift shop, where judging from the noises on the coach on the way home, the farting putty was a big hit). After all we'd seen and done over the course of the day the cubs had met all of the requirements for the Air Activities badge. Akelas Mark and Andy would like to pass their thanks on to everyone involved in making this trip happen.
