Live 07

Q: What has a cast of 3000, a team of seven mini coopers, a parade of old and ancient cars, hundreds of carried flags, abseiling Explorer Scouts and a whole lot more got in common?

A: Live 07, A Festival of Scouting!

On 24th November members of Martians Explorer Unit decided that tripping up to London's O2 arena to see "one of the largest ever London casts" was a great way to spend a Saturday evening. The Live 07 event was one of the last major celebrations marking Scouting's Centenary and it certainly lived up to all expectations!

The day was made even more enjoyable as we travelled to the arena by river ferry - that is really fun believe me!

The show started with the "Right Now" anthem borrowed from Fatboy Slim and we were thrown into the evening by the team of presenters which included The Chief Scout, Peter Duncan (otherwise known more locally as Buttons perhaps).

The three hour show took us back through the year with stops at Brownsea Island, the Sunrise Ceremony and the hugely successful World Jamboree with its Ho Ho (home hospitality). There was a Beaver Scout rap where the Beavers donned dark glasses and hats to look real cool, a reprise for the Jamboree song "Jambo" and enthusiastic competitions of Celebrity cooking on stage. Peter Duncan also played his part in the "stolen scarf" adventure which ended with seven Network members in seven Mini Coopers, which after a carefully orchestrated arena car chase lined up each with a letter on their roof to spell NETWORK!

The evening's fun was culminated with the entire cast and audience on their feet singing the "One vision" anthem!

After the show it was really good to walk with, and to travel on the tube with, so many uniformed scouts of all ages and accents- and do you know we all chatted together - marvellous!
